Why legacy software becomes a risk

Technical debt

Past shortcuts end up slowing you down

Obsolete technology

Vintage is cool in fashion, not in IT

Staffing risk

Nobody is irreplaceable, but what about the original developer?

Hidden costs

Running costs that pile up silently

Security flaws

Are your data and know-how protected?

Hard to innovate

When past choices hold back your growth

Your business software works day to day, but...

  • it is hard to change, because of missing documentation or compatibility
  • nobody wants to take over the code, written in a language that has been obsolete for years
  • outages and bugs pile up, and IT security becomes a real problem
  • performance degrades: years of use have slowed the system down
  • it cannot connect to modern APIs for an efficient workflow
  • your teams ask for cloud, AI and mobile to work better

And yet, this software is still at the heart of your business.

Our next-generation approach to modernizing your software

Our experts combine years of software experience with the productivity gains of AI to cut costs and speed up work on the components of your business application.

More than simple corrective maintenance, Bakino takes over your software and updates it to meet these goals:

  1. Step 1

    Stabilize what exists

We study the source code at the core of your system to find the vital points and strengthen the algorithms by fixing critical bugs.

  2. Step 2

    Reduce technical debt

Programming errors in your aging software can hold back future development. Through code analysis, we fix this, notably by refactoring your application.

  3. Step 3

    Improve performance

Like a rejuvenating treatment, reworking your code makes your tool run more smoothly. The technical and functional overhaul gives your teams better working quality and efficiency.

  4. Step 4

    Document critical components

To make a system built on important business thinking last, we put complete documentation in place. Current and future teams will understand the critical points of the software and keep it durable.

  5. Step 5

    Prepare future changes

Taking over your software lets us spot future problems, anticipate bottlenecks and plan for compatibility with today's needs and tomorrow's requirements.

Examples of legacy technologies we can take over

Our knowledge of architectures and technologies lets us understand and refactor your code. With the help of AI, we can support a wide range of languages and databases, old or current.

Corrective maintenance

Bug fixing

We fix existing bugs and the malfunctions reported by your teams, through a ticket system.

Stabilization

AI helps identify the parts of the code that may cause reliability problems, so your software behaves predictably.

Monitoring

Your business software is under watch: we set up tools to make sure systems stay operational at all times.

Evolutive maintenance

New features

To best meet your teams' needs, we study adding features so your software stays up to date.

APIs

Many services are available through APIs. Connecting your software opens up a wide range of possibilities.

Cloud & mobility

Reaching your workspace at any time, including remotely, is a must for any modern information system.

Artificial intelligence

AI is advancing fast, and tasks that can be automated or assisted by it are a major growth lever.

Gradual software modernization

Refactoring

Simplifying the code reduces technical debt and the risk of failure, and improves performance.

Cloud migration

Keeping a system on-site is not inevitable. We can help you move your IT to the cloud and enjoy its benefits.

Security

System security plays out at many levels: updates, patches, good practices... All critical vulnerabilities must be reviewed.

Modern architecture

Taking over software is a chance to upgrade to more open, secure systems that can grow with your company.

Your questions about application maintenance

What does “TMA” mean?

TMA is the French acronym for third-party application maintenance. A company hands part or all of the maintenance of its applications, software or information system to an outside provider. It is close to outsourcing or managed IT services.

What does application maintenance cover?

The provider keeps the client's information system running well, and handles corrective work and support: user requests (tickets) and availability guarantees.

Unlike simple reactive support, it is also preventive, through audits of the code (technical debt), the databases and the network architecture.

Evolutive maintenance (continuous development) improves the business software, notably by adding features.

Adaptive maintenance keeps an application compliant with its legal or technical environment.

Why use a maintenance provider when we already have an IT department?

There are several reasons to call on a provider like Bakino. For example:

  • the original developers of a business application have left or moved to another team. The skills are gone, so you need experts to take over the code and keep the software running
  • needs vary, and the team that built a software solution may have little to do once development ends. It is an economic and staffing consideration

How does a maintenance contract work in practice?

The agreement between provider and client is set out in a contract, often multi-year, with or without a fixed term. It defines the key points of the service:

  • the scope: which applications the provider is responsible for keeping running
  • the working mode: per ticket (each intervention request) or time-based (the provider offers a "credit" that is used up as work is done)
  • response times and service level, especially in an emergency or major outage

An SLA (service level agreement) frames these commitments.

What happens in case of a critical outage?

Corrective maintenance includes 24/7 monitoring and AI-assisted stabilization to speed up diagnosis, before our team works on the fixes.

How much does maintenance cost at Bakino?

It depends on the scope, how critical the system is and the contract type. The first step is a quick, free technical audit, which gives you a realistic budget estimate.
